Friday Five

I know it's Sunday, but I didn't have time to post this until now.

1) Have you read more books, or fewer books, this past year than usual?
I read 40 books in 2020, which is about average for me.

2) What book are you reading now (or what book did you read most recently)?
I am currently struggling through Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I love the story, but it's a slow moving text.

3) What is the best book you read in the past few years?
Oh, man, I've read a lot of good books the last few years. Some I can think of off the top of my head are Finding Dorothy, The All Souls Trilogy, and The Broken Earth Trilogy.

4) Do you read more than one book at a time, or just one?
I read two or three at a time. Usually a paperback and an eBook. I have my Kindle by my bed for nights when I can't sleep.

5) How big is your to-be-read pile (or list)?
Physical books? I think close to 30, but on my Kindle I probably have closer to 100. And then there's the list of books I've heard about and want to read, but don't have in my possession...

Books 3-10

Not all of these are finished, and I don't remember what order I read some of them in, but trying to get more organized.

I think the book I mentioned in my last update was Snowed in with the Bear by Isadora Montrose )This one is...weird. The characters' motivations and thoughts just don't make sense. I've read half of it, I'm not sure I'll finish this one.

I also read Courting Trouble by Kimberly Dean ) This wasn't terrible, but I remember bits of it were weird, though not unusual for this kind of story. Overall, I enjoyed it.

I also started The Vampire's Executioner by Isadora Brown )I'm about halfway through this as well. The story is interesting, though I'm not sure I understand all the characters yet.

I'm also still slowly making my way through Webley and the World Machine.

I recently finished the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz as well. I had picked up the first one at a library sale last time they had one (over a year ago!) and I found the rest at the libary (though my location only had books 3 & 4, I had to get books 2 and 5 from two different libraries). I really enjoyed the series, it had all the elements you can expect from a Dean Koontz novel. Weird science, a love story, a cute dog that saves the day...

Book 1 Prodigal Son )

Book 2 City of Night )

Book 3 Dead and Alive )

Book 4 Lost Souls )

Book 5 The Dead Town )

I also picked up the original Frankenstein at the same sale and I've been struggling my way through it. I'm about halfway through. The story itself is good, but the writing is dense and makes it very slow moving. Also, the part that I thought would be the most exciting (and would be described in extreme detail given the rest of the story so far) was merely a casual mention. I had to go back and re-read the page thinking I had missed something.
