lavenderspark: (book)
Keepers of the Light was fantastic! I may have to actually buy the next one. I've never purchased an eBook, I usually just get the free download offers, or download the ones that have public domain copyrights.

I read a review on it that says it's a blend of several fairy tales, but I didn't recognize any, so either they were tales I'm not familiar with or they were very obscure references. The main character is a bit weak, but I feel it's intentional, she's only 17 and has been completely sheltered her whole life and now she's thrust into a war/fight for her life and dealing with beings that she's been raised to believe are dead/don't exist. I think she manages some pretty amazing things given her circumstances.

The world building was pretty good and all the characters were believable and well done. If you like fantasy adventure type stories, I'd recommend it.

After I finished that, I picked up ExpandThe Beast House by Richard Laymon ) because, Halloween, scary story... I don't know.

It wasn't at all what I thought it would be. It's from the 80s, so I'm hoping some of the terribleness is because of that, but I'm not sure. It was more bad porn than story, but there was enough interesting story that I finished it. Though if it had been any longer of a book, I may not have.
