New things that I've been enjoying:

I just finished the newest season of an amazing podcast. It's more of a radio drama. A story acted out with sound effects and everything, not just a book being read to you. It took a while to get through it all because there are two seasons, but each episode is only about 30 minutes. The podcast is called The Penumbra Podcast. They have two stories, but the one that I listen to and absolutely LOVE, is Juno Steel. He's a private eye. It's set in the future where Earth is dead and everyone lives on Mars (and other planets, but the story takes place on Mars). From the wiki:

"Juno Steel is a private eye whose best quality is making enemies. He works with his secretary Rita to solve various cases, ranging from murder mysteries to finding lost objects. He is bisexual and nonbinary and sometimes refers to himself as a lady, though uses exclusively he/him pronouns throughout the podcast. Juno often provides angst ridden one-liners throughout the show and often makes self-depreciating jokes."

If any of that sounds like your thing, CHECK IT OUT. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I've also discovered a couple new shows that I really like.

The first is Pose. It's set in the late 80s in New York and stars a Trans woman trying to make a name for herself in the community and a young gay man/boy (he's 17) trying to make it on his own after being kicked out of his family home. The down side of the show is that since it's 80s New York, there is talk of Trump and a couple characters work in Trump Tower. BUT overall the show is amazing. I think I've cried a bit in every episode so far. I think the whole first season has aired, I'm working through it on my DVR. The episodes are an hour long.

The second is American Woman. Set in the late 1970s in California, it stars Alicia Silverstone as a housewife that discovers her husband is having an affair. After she kicks him out, she discovers he's being investigated for embezzlement. She's forced to try to find a job to support herself and her two daughters while trying to keep their lavish house (the only home her daughters have known). I wasn't sure if I would like it at first and it took some time to get used to the way Alicia talks. I don't remember her sounding like that in Clueless or Batman Forever. I'd say it's for the show, but I watched her on Lip Sync Battle and it's just how she talks. But the show is pretty great. The three main characters are women trying to make their way in a world that is still pretty anti women. Alicia is the main character, but she's supported by Mena Suvari who plays a woman with family money. She's started a business with her boyfriend trying to be an acting agency. And Jennifer Bartels (whom I don't recognize from anything else) as a bank loan officer trying to get ahead in her career while taking care of her overbearing mother. All three are strong independent women, but each has their own unique outlook on the world. And the world is pretty shitty to them sometimes.

So if you're looking for new things to enjoy, I hope you'll enjoy one (or all!) of these. If you do check them out, let me know!

I just finished watching Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrell today. It was a seven part mini series on BBCA this summer. It was amazing. I really liked it. The guide online said it was like Harry Potter for adults, but I disagree. This is completely different. The only similarities I can see are magic and London/England.

I may try to get this on DVD if it becomes available. I know it was based on a book, so I will probably try to see if I can get it from the library and check that out too.

But if you like magical fantasy, definitely check it out. It's also set in Victorian England during the French/English war.
