Scarlet Women With her inquisitive mind, Charlotte Holmes has never felt comfortable with the demureness expected of the fairer sex in upper class society. But even she never thought that she would become a social pariah, an outcast fending for herself on the mean streets of London.
When the city is struck by a trio of unexpected deaths and suspicion falls on her sister and her father, Charlotte is desperate to find the true culprits and clear the family name. She’ll have help from friends new and old—a kind-hearted widow, a police inspector, and a man who has long loved her.
But in the end, it will be up to Charlotte, under the assumed name Sherlock Holmes, to challenge society’s expectations and match wits against an unseen mastermind. I read this as an audio book. It played as background noise for the most part as I found the beginning of the book a bit boring. Once the story itself got going, it was interesting. I enjoyed the idea of Sherlock being female and the ways the author went about hiding the fact from the other characters. I think if I were to read more in this series, I would do it in print form so I can skip over any parts that I feel are not necessary.
I'm still working through my backlog of series to finish using my unlimited free trial. I finished one more series and started on the last one before I can read books that were recommended to me by a friend.
Magic Bound Saga
Time Traveler's Vampire To save the one she loves, Ember must risk it all in a magical battle that’s been lifetimes in the making.
As their enemy grows more powerful, Ember Brighton and Rane Andersson are at a loss for how to stop him and restore the balance of time. As their villainous counterpart seems to glean more information on Ember and her time traveling abilities, time is running out to stop him before he becomes impossible to stop.
Retracing their steps may be the only way to discover secrets to eliminating the threat to themselves and to Ember’s remaining family. A mysterious stone that Ember possesses may hold the answers she needs, or worse...the trouble she doesn’t.
But evil isn’t all that’s brewing in this time traveler’s world. The knowledge of being bound to Rane Andersson somehow won’t stop playing in the back of Ember’s mind. But with centuries between them, how bound could they actually be?
When it comes down to it, is the growing connection between Ember and Rane for good, or will it be their downfall as they risk everything to keep the other safe?
Time Traveler's Fate Her journey through time, spanning centuries, has all come down to this.
Ember Brighton has finally run out of time. With her magic bound to an insurmountable evil, threatening to eliminate her and her loved ones once and for all, she’s desperate and limited on options.
MacGregor may not be the brains behind the time traveler’s destruction, but he has caused complete devastation. The fae leading the crusade to eliminate Ember and her family has ensured MacGregor has all he needs to seal their fates and ruin their ability to balance time.
With so much at stake, every choice is critical. Every moment could spell the end if things don’t fall into place as they should.
The power Ember possessed will have to be regained, but will who she was be enough to defeat not only MacGregor, but the fae against them as well? And how great a sacrifice will be made in the end to ensure she succeeds? I really enjoyed the first book in this series (Time Traveler's Magic), somehow these two didn't feel like they lived up to the story that was built in the first book. Things went off the rails a bit and I felt like adding in the Fae as an extra conflict was odd. It really felt like two stories.
I'm now working on finishing the Darkness of the Living Forest series. I'm on book 2 of 3.
Ascent of Darkness The deadly blight spreads. The Order of Valxiron resurfaces. The Dark One of Altarea will rise anew.
In the heart of Tir-na-Alathea, Aedon and Lief finally make it to the sanctuary of the Queen’s court. But, Queen Solanaceae is not the benevolent ruler Lief hoped for. Thrust into peril once more, duty binds Aedon and Lief to the Queen of the woodland realm. They must return to the heart of the darkness in Lune to discover what dangerous truth lies there and to face that peril with fire and song—if it does not devour them first.
Deep in Pelenor’s eastern mountains, dragon rider Vasili is a prisoner of an enemy that ought to be long dead—the Order of Valxiron. If he is to stand any chance of freedom, he must serve, but the Order will see him punished for the sins of his forefathers first. Vasili walks a dangerous path of loyalty and treachery under the punishing attentions of Morrigan of House Mallory. He will escape… if he survives her.
Strands of fate weave together unknowingly, as an old enemy rises—but those who stand against him may be far too late to save themselves. I'm about halfway through this. So far it lives up to the first book, though I'm sorely missing one of the characters from book 1 that has yet to make an appearance.
