Books 38-43
Apr. 8th, 2022 11:13 amAfter the darkness of the Horsemen series and Ruin, I decided to go for something lighter.
I dug through my kindle and found ( The Lady's Guide to Scandal by Emmanuelle de Maupassant ) This was disappointing. I expected adventure, archeology, and romance. I got almost none of those. The main focus of the book was society's view of women. I've got enough of that in real life, thanks.
So in desperation I searched through the books in my unlimited access and stumbled down the rabbit hole with The Harem of Hearts series.
( Allison's Adventures in Underland by C.M. Stunich )
( Allison and the Torrid Tea Party By C.M. Stunich )
( Allison Shatters the Looking-Glass by C.M. Stunich ) I very much enjoyed this series. The story itself is well done and calls back to the original in fun ways. There is another series planned, with the first book coming in August.
Scrolling through the author's work, I found she also has a Wizard of Oz retelling. I couldn't help myself.
( Very Bad Wizards by C.M. Stunich ) I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the first series, but it is an interesting retelling. Unfortunately the rest of the series is not available yet.
Then I found another book by Beverley Lee and since I loved Ruin so much, I decided to give it a shot.
( The House of Little Bones by Beverley Lee ) I haven't finished this yet, but I'm more than halfway through. The story is...ok. The writing isn't nearly as good as Ruin. Overall I'm pretty disappointed.
