I'm going to try to make a list to submit to the Tori Covers group this year. I've never done it before and there are soooo many covers out there! She does most of them live, so it's hard to know what all she's covered. I found a list online (obviously, you can find ANYTHING online) and I'm going through it to see what I know and then looking up/listening to what I don't. It's hard because some of the recordings are really poor quality and/or the audience is so loud I can't hear her. :/

But I'm pretty sure my number one favorite cover she does is Famous Blue Raincoat. I've heard the original (Leonard Cohen) version and I prefer hers. Hers has so much more emotion in my opinion.

Also up there is her cover of Enjoy the Silence. I love Depeche Mode. I wish they would do some kind of duet/collaboration. That would be awesome.

I also love Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Landslide. So that's four! 46 to go!

Listening to Candle in the Wind now and it's pretty.

Ooo, Daniel is pretty too!

I'm torn on whether to include '97 Bonnie and Clyde. It's very creeptastic. I really can't even listen to it. When I saw her in concert promoting the album it's on (Strange Little Girls), she opened with it. It was very haunting. She played it from offstage/behind the curtain. Seriously getting goosebumps now from remembering it. But that's what she was trying to do, she was trying to convey the song from the wife/mother's prospective. It's *supposed* to be creepy. But can I really include a song I can't even listen to? Hm. Maybe it can be number 50.

Listening to these makes me miss seeing her live. I love her stories.

I forgot A Case of You! I love that cover too.

I've got almost ten! They're not in order yet, but the deadline is in June, so I think I'm ok. :)

Hahaha, listening to I Ran now.

This sounds like something that you'll have a lot of fun doing, and a great way to gain exposure to some newish sounds.

Hmm... Where the haunting song is concerned, I think I'd look to see if there was anything else that I unequivocally like more, before including it.

No matter how beautiful or well done a song might be, music that I can listen to anytime, in any mood, will always trump music that has a limited purpose for me. If it dramatically impacts my mood (like making me feel sad or angry), it might be number 1 on a list of 'Top Ten Songs to Listen to When I'm Angry', but it won't make my 'Top Ten Songs For All Time' list. My 'All Time' list is reserved for the music that I can enjoy under any circumstances.

(I don't actually have any lists like that, but that does tend to be how I categorize my music. That and music that I can listen to while driving. There's some music that I really enjoy, but causes me to rapidly get lost in my own head. Not really a safe thing to do when you're driving.)

Yeah, I probably won't include it.

I've never really put my music in lists either, but when I was in HS I had my 5 CDs that I would play while cleaning. It was kind of angry/venting music, but it helped keep me going lol.

I agree there are some things you shouldn't listen to while driving! Sometimes I have to turn the radio off altogether because I'm not focusing enough on the road. That's more about my mental state and less about the music though. Some days it's just not safe for me to drive period.
