lavendersparkAfter doing some comic icons, I realized I haven't read all my Constantine books. Or, rather, I think I skipped one. So I read John Constatine celebrates his fortieth birthday alongside his friends and loved ones, including Swamp Thing and Zatanna, and the love of his life, Kit. However, things never burn bright too long for John Constantine, and he soons finds himself at his lowest point ever. Drunk and homeless, John must pull himself together if he is going to survive against the King of the Vampires, who comes looking for his blood. And while reading it, I'm fairly certain I read the one after it first because I kept thinking some of the characters were dead. :/ But having read it, the one after it makes a bit more sense now! I may read it again now that I've read this one. There wasn't much supernatural going on in this one, just John being super depressed. But I liked what it added to his story/motivations.
Now I'm reading In this extraordinary coming-of-age odyssey, Wally Lamb invites us to hitch a wild ride on a journey of love, pain, and renewal with the most heartbreakingly comical heroine to come along in years.
Meet Dolores Price. She's 13, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye. Stranded in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally orbits into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before she really goes under. . It's interesting, but a little all over the place. I picked it up at the library sale because I have a couple of friends that love it and talk very highly of it. I'm not sure I'll feel the same way about it as they do, but it's ok so far.
