Packing, moving, and unpacking are not conducive to keeping track of what I manage to read during my limited down time. Thankfully, most of my reading happened on my Kindle and I was able to look through it and see what I've read.
Unfortunately I have no idea when I read any of these other than sometime between my last book update and now. So I'm just going to list them all here.
**Fair warning, ALL of these are romance stories at their heart, some more trashy than others. Some of them are reverse harem...
Passed down through generations, a creator’s stone was given to Weaver Rizer. A gift that brings pain but also a gift that could save his world. Only downside, it’s now embedded into his skin.
All the experiences and trials Weaver faces lead him to the truth. He is only meant to deliver the stone to another. The leader of a rebellion fighting against the crown. But nothing works as it should. With the help of mages, princes, a new-found love and childhood friends, he attempts to keep a vengeful god from waking.
But as Weaver sees his goal within reach, the god of Ellipsis himself gives Weaver a warning. Every step he takes is one step closer to his death. I remember this being good overall, but there were some parts that were a little clunky. Like, I'm not really sure what the purpose of the brothel(s) was. Maybe it comes up later in the series, I don't know.
Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera’s life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master’s advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out... Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera’s barn.
River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother’s loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to... a female. A mortal female.
Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing—a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone... especially for Lera herself. This was a good, fast paced story. The world building was done well and the characters were fully formed. I really liked it.
A recurrent dream. A fated encounter. A destiny neither can deny.
Heaven Lewis needs a break—from college, from relationships, from her life. After arriving in L.A., her vacation plans are thwarted by chaos. Encountering a celebrity wasn't on her to-do list. Neither is dating him. But the more time they spend together, the more his soul speaks to hers.
Dylan McBride is desperate to find the girl haunting his dreams. When he meets Heaven, her presence calls to his soul, awakening a desire so primal, he struggles to control it. A simple glance, a tender touch, even the sound of her voice electrifies his body. As much as he craves her, there’s more than lust drawing them together. Dylan can sense Heaven’s emotions.
As the mysterious connection between them deepens, Dylan uncovers a secret that proves his and Heaven’s destinies intertwine. Yet telling her the truth won’t be easy. Outside influences threaten to keep them apart, and a horrific encounter puts Heaven in danger. Dylan must find the courage to tell her the truth or risk losing the woman whose fate is linked to his. This was...ok. The idea of shared dreaming was interesting, but the story was very disjointed and sometimes hard to follow. I did recently download what I think is the next one in the series, but only because it was also free.
One day, I’m nobody. The next, I’m a witch. And I’ve caught the attention of three smoking hot demons.
I left home to start over, to escape a world I never fit in. I soon learned that my past was a lie. My parents suppressed my magical abilities and tried to make me forget my true nature. They almost succeeded.
Now my real grandmother is back in my life and teaching me the craft of our people. After living my whole life without magic, I feel like a blind woman seeing for the first time.
But three devilishly handsome men are saying there’s more to my story. I see them everywhere, even in my dreams which are starting to feel like distant memories.
They say I’m not an ordinary witch. My grandmother says not to trust them. Who do I believe? I feel like this one just dropped in the middle of a story. Sometimes that's good, but in this case, I felt like I was missing something. However, given that it's the beginning of a series AND that the main character seemed to be as lost as I was, it probably back tracks later in the series. It wasn't a terrible read, but I'm not sure I'm vested enough in any of the characters to want more.
The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.," and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those three letters.
If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?
I did.
The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."
A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."
The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.
And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."
Would you have gotten in?
I did.
It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free. This made me think a bit of Fifty Shades of Gray, though I've never actually read it. But from what I know of the story, this is very similar. It wasn't terrible, but not something I generally want to read.
A kidnapped child. A witch on the warpath. A church guard in crisis.
In the year of our Lord 1815, Thomas Drake Saint-Clair, Earl of Braden, a Guard of the Green Cross, is tasked by his archbishop to rescue a missing boy and return him to his warlock father. The order lands Braden in the middle of an unholy war between witches and warlocks and shoves him headlong past a sacred line he'd sworn never to cross.
Newly confirmed Coven Protectress, Merryn Pendraven, rushes to rescue a witch's son. She's convinced the same evil warlock who was responsible for her younger brother's death is behind this kidnapping, too. She has no intention of letting this vile villain get away with the same crime, twice.
When Merryn discovers Braden is also on the case, she's tempted to join forces. Yet, how can she truly trust him when her aunt has warned that Braden's second secret charge is to destroy their coven? Finding love in this cauldron of trouble might prove to be Merryn's deadliest mission and Braden's complete undoing. This was actually really good. I enjoyed the story and the author's take on witches. The characters were well done and relatable. I wouldn't mind reading the rest of the series.
Race against the clock through a dystopian nightmare. Climb naked into an untested time machine (carrying only a seashell and a promise). Wake up twenty years younger on a tropical beach, buck naked and mortally wounded, with your heart in your throat.
This is a journey of love, loss, and redemption that will make your pulse gallop and your palms sweat, have you laughing out loud through your tears, and leave you flush with the sublime pleasure of falling in love. The story here was good, but hard to follow at times. There were time jumps that were never mentioned, so I had a hard time keeping things straight. But overall it was enjoyable to read.
I have no idea what’s happening to me.
When a tornado dropped my car in a land of short, wild people, I was shocked. With no way to get home, no idea where I was and no clue how to communicate with the muchkins, I was completely out of luck. Then I found out that my car had landed on someone and killed them. Supposedly she was the Wicked Witch of the East.
If that wasn’t bad enough, now her ruby slippers magically appear on my feet, and slowly, I’m becoming her.
Now I need to get to Emerald City and see the Wizard if I want to stop the transformation and return home. But the yellow brick road is no cake-walk, and I don’t know what I’ll find at the end of this journey. Luckily, I have three brothers I meet along the way to help me on my journey. Each of them is vying for my affection, as if it doesn’t matter that my skin is turning green. This one I actually purchased. It's a retelling of Wizard of Oz, I had no choice. I was not disappointed either. It's like a mix of the original Oz and some Dorothy Must Die and a dash of Emerald City(TV show). Yet the author still writes her own story. I really want the other two books, but the third one isn't published yet and I'm not sure I want to pay $3 for the second one after only paying $1 for this one. I'm holding out for the third one to be published in May to see if the price drops on the second one. I may just buy both before then though since I know I'll want to read that one too. It's a struggle.
If I read anything else, I have no memory of it. BUT a new bookstore just opened in town!! All used books! AND there's a library sale on Saturday...
