Stolen from
tinny. This looks interesting! I barely make the cut with 14 fics, so I'm going to start with my very first fic and work my way to current. Maybe I can see some changes?
Rules: list the first lines of your last 10 published stories. See if there are any patterns yourself, or have other people say what they notice.
"Get out of my annex! I don't care where you go, but you can't stay here. Go on, go. Shoo!" Jenkins cried with a wave of his hands.
And A Song Librarians T Cassandra/Jake
Well, this is not what I thought I'd wake up to, thought Fitz.
Comfort Agents of SHIELD T Fitz/Simmons
“Don't go home tonight,” he said, his eyes pleading.

She stood outside his door, the cool wind blowing her hair.

She stood outside his door, gripping a sheet of paper in her hands.
Letters & Coffee Younger M Liza/Charles
Exhausted, Jim wanted nothing more than a drink and sleep.
Night Cap Gotham T+ Jim/Sofia
"Oh. Oh, no." Liza said, her phone pressed to her ear.

She was sitting on the edge of the bed, trying to wrap her head around everything he had just told her.
Interlude A Discovery of Witches T+ Diana/Matthew
Hmm. It looks like I start my writing with some kind of action. Either dialogue or someone doing something. There's only one that starts with a description. And I don't really like that one all that much.
I'm also kind of hit or miss with names, but that's true all the way through my fics. Most of them are scene extensions, so I don't really feel the need to identify who I'm talking about as it's usually only two characters m/f. But it's also personal preference. I can't stand reading a character's name every five lines, I feel like it breaks the spell of the story a bit. Even worse if it's first name and last name.
I don't know that I see any improvement, but it doesn't seem worse either.

on 2019-06-16 09:43 am (UTC)I notice that you have "s/he said" a lot, which I now suspect I don't do? I usually just leave it out completely and go on with the rest. I only just noticed that now that I see you using it so often. It wasn't something I did consciously.
I chuckled at 4 and 5 starting almost identically. I assume you did that on purpose?
