I've gotten behind on updating this again. I haven't read any physical books in a while, so this is just a list of eBooks I've read recently.
I'll be the first to admit it... my rise to power hasn't gone entirely as planned.
I'm still trying to fit into my new role at the Night Court when a long-lost war hero reappears at court. He's beguiled the nobles, but I'm not so easily swayed or quick to trust.
At least amidst all the chaos has been one constant; my males. They've been there at every turn, and I'm falling deeper in love with them every day.
But the secrets are starting to pile up and weigh on all of us. Our forbidden romance and the matter of my multiple graces being the least of them...so why do I feel like the secrets others are hiding could be even more destructive than my own?
My males would give their lives to protect me, but I don't think they realize how much I'd sacrifice to ensure that never happens. This was an interesting story. I didn't realize it was book two until after I finished it. There were a few things that probably would have made more sense if I had read the previous book, but I didn't feel too lost.
Two weeks. No strings.
With Adam Callaway I thought I'd found the perfect fling. He was great in bed and only in town for a few hot nights.
There was no way I could have known Adam wouldn't be satisfied with just sex. My craving for his body made me careless. I broke my rules. I let him in. I never thought two weeks could change everything. All I wanted was an escape, what I got was so much more.
Something I couldn't live without once I had it This one was...ok. It got a bit weird, but in a too many life secrets kind of way and random blackmail and just kind of an odd continuity. I liked the main characters well enough that I finished it.
In a kingdom ruled by a vampire, royal blood doesn’t mean what it used to—and fairy tales don’t always have happy endings.
To wrest her inheritance from her evil stepmother, Cindy must marry a respectable man before she turns 25. The upcoming royal ball is the perfect place to find one—with the help of a fairy godmother. Or at least, a drunken prostitute with some magical skills.
At the ball, though, King Caspian sets his sights on her. It’s not like Cindy doesn’t know better—but surely no one’s more respectable than a king. So really, what does she have to lose?
Everything, as it turns out. Because the king isn’t human at all, but a monster who’s hell-bent on having Cindy in his bed again.
If only he can track her down.
Scroll up and one-click this steamy, sexy, adult retelling of Cinderella with a vampire twist! I really enjoyed this Cinderella retelling. I think it actually would've been better without the sex bits, they were mostly random and awkward in a this doesn't really need to be here way. But the story itself was great and I really liked the characters.
One night to fall in love. One night to save the world.
Duty vs. Desire
Stranded on a desolate country road, Aurora seeks sanctuary from a stormy night. Instead, what she finds could be something more dangerous to herself, and her heart.
Though she is the only light in his bleak existence, UnHallowed Warrant, can't protect Aurora. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, their deadly dance has to begin tonight...on a deserted farm.
In a broken house...
Where he will claim her...
Or kill her This was also a really good story that could have done without the random sex bits. I did not see the twists coming and that doesn't happen often for me.
I know she’s lying the moment I see her.
That her name is as fake as her story.
I found her broken down on the road to nowhere.
Lost. Homeless.
Scared out of her mind.
But when our eyes meet, I know I’m in trouble.
She’s put my entire world at risk.
My reputation. My business. My livelihood.
She is the last thing I need. And everything I can’t resist.
Because Mia brought me back to life.
And I will do anything to save hers... This was a good story with a random twist/unexpected character backstory that I'm not sure was entirely necessary, but it didn't take away from the main story.
And I'm still slowly making my way through Impetuous and headstrong is Tara, Princess of Helium and daughter of John Carter. Tara meets Prince Gahan of Gathol, and is initially unimpressed, viewing him as something of a popinjay. Later she takes her flier into a storm and loses control of the craft, and the storm carries her to an unfamiliar region of Barsoom. After landing and fleeing from a pack of ferocious Banths (Martian lions), she is captured by the horrific Kaldanes, who resemble large heads with small, crab-like legs. The Kaldanes have bred a symbiotic race of headless human-like creatures called Rykors, which they can attach themselves to and ride like a horse. While imprisoned, Tara manages to win over one of the Kaldanes, Ghek, with her lovely singing voice. I'm a little frustrated with the depiction of Tara. For all the strong female characters Burroughs has in all the other Barsoom books, she seems more damsel in distress and lacks the abilities of her father and brother which makes no sense.
