Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war—and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.
Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried—and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.Came in just as I left town. Thankfully my library still had it when I got back! I really enjoyed this book, it felt more in line with the first three books of the series. I could've skipped the other two and only been lost in a couple spots. I put a hold on the next book, which is the last of the series. I've also decided to not watch the Netflix series. I've talked with my friend about it and for some reason the show decided to add racism. It's completely unnecessary and unwanted.
I had started "If you ever want to hide from the world, live in a small city, where everyone seems anonymous."
That's the advice of twelve-year-old Ariella Montero, who lives with her father in Saratoga Springs, New York, in a house haunted more by secrets than by memories. The Society of S traces her journey south, to Asheville and Savannah, and on to Florida, as she learns that everything she knows about her family is a lie.
When she finds her mother, she learns the truth: Ariella is a fledgling member of the Society of S.
S stands for Sanguinists: a sect of environmentalists concerned with ethics and human rights -- although they happen to be vampires. S also stands for synesthete: a person able to see words and letters in colors. The letter S is lucky for Sara, Ariella's mother, who gravitates to cities such as Savannah and Sarasota. But will it be lucky for Ariella? while waiting for King of Scars, but put it aside when it arrived. I finished it yesterday. I really enjoyed the story, though the character did not act like a 13 year old. She came off more like 16 or 17 and that would have been a better age to fit her actions and the story. Parts of the story take place in Savannah and it was fun to know what they were talking about.
I started The Empire will kill him for stealing this ship… but they have to catch it first!
To the Empire the Wanderer was just another booby-trapped ship to claim, and Jess was just another worthless slave who could be sacrificed in the process.
Things didn’t go to plan. Jess survived the dangers, and when he sat in the pilot’s chair the ancient ship came to life for the first time in centuries.
Acting on instinct Jess seized the chance, firing up the engines and fleeing the Imperial forces.
Now Jess and the ancient self-aware ship are on the run, their freedom and their very existence on the line.
The smart thing to do would be to run like hell and never stop, but Jess finds he can’t ignore pleas for help from those in danger. With the powerful Wanderer at his command he can truly make a difference… but at what cost? while I was out of town and it is FANTASTIC! Sentient space ship, check. Found family, check. Rescuing prisoners from terrible people, check. Action, double check. A bit of romance, check. It smacks a bit of Star Wars, but not enough to detract from the greatness of it. I've finished the first book and started the second.
